2016 Winter Middle School Competitive Boys and Girls Teams (Nov. to Dec.) We will again form and field competitive Teams for boys and also girls as has been requested by Alumni families, players and local Coaches! Teams will be for middle school aged players based on AAU age rules for the following grades: 6th grade Team =12 and Under (An athlete can be no older than 12 on August 31, 2017.) 7th grade Team = 13 and Under (An athlete can be no older than 13 on August 31, 2017.) 8th grade Team = 14 and Under (An athlete can be no older than 14 on August 31, 2017.) Teams will be formed on the basis of best skills balance for each team and may result in some younger players playing up but older players will not play down. Team players must all attend and try out at a Player Skill Assessments for both new and Alumni players.
RSVP: All interested players and or their parents must RSVP to reserve a spot (fill out and send below RSVP Form) for an invite to a Player Skill Assessment for Coaching staff evaluation of player skill, development potential and readiness for competitive basketball based on High School Rules. Player's will be assigned a time and gym location for our Assessment and must attend a minimum of one Assessment. Player Assessments will start Oct 31 and end Nov 12, but recommend early RSVP as Teams will max out at 12 players per Team based on a first come first assessed basis and we already have a large volume of returning Alumni players, as well as Coaches referrals.
Player Skill Assessment: Veteran Coaches will assess each player in several categories of fundamental basketball skill and include hustle, attitude, aggression, teamwork and athleticism (speed, agility, stamina, strength) during group drills and scrimmages. Players that possess adequate skill, potential, and are assessed to be ready for competitive basketball will be assigned to a Team roster spot by grade level skill. Those players that are not ready will be offered to attend Skill Clinics to further develop their game skills and also may be offered a practice only spot for local game competition if not ready for AAU Club Travel Tournaments. If there are more players assessed to be competitive ready but not enough Team openings due to the typical high number of Alumni returning players, those players will be referred to other local non-profit AAU Clubs and AAU Coaches/Trainers. New players should attend two Assessments, every player must attend one Assessment. Assessments are open for parents to watch from the sidelines and not under the baskets or in impact areas and no unattended children are allowed inside the gyms due to insurance requirements .
WINTER Team Focus: Our Winter Teams are for players looking for optimum development of their competitive game skills, Coaching by High School Coaches, current College players, veteran AAU Coaches as well as Napa Valley College Coaching staff with an emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork, and improvement of player game IQ. Prior competitive experience in AAU, CYO, CSL is preferred but not essential. Players looking for a challenge beyond Recreation Leagues or in addition to their Winter school or CYO Team that want to ensure continued growth in their game skill and enjoyment through a more intensive program that is focused on developing High School ready players, should RSVP and are welcome to watch!
Team Format: Each Team will have two experienced and successful Coaches, practice two times a week in Napa for 1.5 hr per practice for 8 weeks ending in the last week of December and we will try our best to set practice times that do not conflict with local CYO or School practices, with all Team players required to attend four 1 hour Saturday Skill Clinics at Napa Valley College.
Team Cost: Team Fee per player is $350 for Practice and Tournament Costs and $100 for Skill Clinics = $ 450 total for boys Teams. Girls Team Fee per player is $ 550. as girls will play one more AAU Tournament than the boys and also includes Skill Clinics but not play ACE games as the girls ACE season is in Jan-Feb.. Boys will be entered into the ACE Middle School League of the Napa Valley for 3 + games in Nov. and Dec., to compete against Napa Valley Unified School District middle school Teams and private middle school Teams.
Team Uniforms: Alumni players will wear their Legends Hoops boys or Lady Legends girls uniform from prior season participation to keep player costs down. New players will need to order a new reversible hi-quality custom uniform for $100 for Adult sizes and $95 for Youth sizes (Youth sized shorts do not contain drawstrings so recommend ordering a size up). Typical delivery time from order to receipt is minimum 2 weeks so order uniform as soon as player is assigned to a Team. (Some used uniforms may be available from Alumni that has outgrown them but that inventory is limited.)
